Film Festival of Columbus to Fold into Dynamic, New Regional Film Event


[Columbus, OH] – February 5, 2020 - Film Festival of Columbus (FFOCOL) is happy to announce a new partnership with the Columbus Association of Performing Arts (CAPA) to launch Cinema Columbus, a definitive new film festival that curates and celebrates essential new cinematic works from around the world. As part of this new collaboration, FFOCOL will fold into the new, annual festival that will hold its inaugural event May 7-17, 2020. Central Ohio’s premier cinemas and exhibition venues, including the Drexel TheatreGateway Film CenterLincoln Theatre, and other select CAPA venues, will join forces to make Cinema Columbus the region’s grandest annual film event and a centerpiece of Columbus arts and culture.


Film submissions are currently being accepted, and FFOCOL alums are encouraged to enter. Films with 50% or more footage shot in Ohio are eligible to apply for a local waiver of the entry fee. More details are available at www.CinemaColumbus.com and entries can be submitted via FilmFreeway.


“We’re excited to work with CAPA on providing the region with the film festival we’ve all been waiting for, and frankly, deserve,” says John Daugherty, co-founder of FFOCOL and executive director of Film Columbus. “This is one of several initiatives that CAPA has recently taken to bolster the film industry in the Columbus area. It’s great to see a collaboration of venues and ideas to grow the film industry in Columbus. It truly is the Columbus way.”

In addition to the diverse selection of new feature films, Cinema Columbus will showcase an exciting lineup of red-carpet events, filmmaker talks, educational opportunities, and immersive storytelling experiences that will serve as a platform for filmmakers to launch their careers or premiere new works. 


Film Columbus will also hold its Film Summit during Cinema Columbus to kick off a new era of multiple Film Summits each year.
